Chai lovers take their beverage very seriously. The right proportion of sugar, milk, water and chai patti (tea leaf) matters and so does the use of additional elements like ginger, cardamom or black pepper. Everyone has different specifications for their perfect cup of chai and making chai that impresses everyone is not everyone’s cup of tea!
Monsoon is knocking at the door and it’s just another excuse to have tea whenever it rains. Here are some of the snack options that you can try to accompany your chai and make the most of the rains.
Commonly used during fasts, Sabudana or Sago is used to make the crunchiest and extremely delicious vadas. Just make some vadas/tikkis by using soaked sabudana with boiled potatoes and dip them in spicy, tangy chutney to make the perfect companion for your chai during monsoon.
Ridge gourd or Turai is not a very liked vegetable. However, when turned into deep fried pakodas, it is difficult to have at just one.
Just cut some turai in round shape, cover them with gram flour batter with salt and a little chili powder and deep fry them in hot oil. You can also make some chutney from dry mango powder and enjoy the rainy season with your favorite chai with hot pakodas.
Yes you read it right, Dhokha is different from Dhokla. Dokha prepared with besan (gram flour) is another good option to have with your chai. Those fluffy yellow pieces made by a besan batter seasoned with salt and heeng (asfoetida) later cooked in a pan. Give it a spicy tadka and squeeze a lemon and your delicious dhokas are ready!
Nothing works better with chai than a piping hot samosa. But have you ever tried a samosa sandwich ? All you need to do is put a freshly made samosa between two bread slices and add some tomato ketchup or chutney of your choice and press them together. This heavenly combination is sure to take on a ride of joy and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it becomes your go to snack during monsoon.
