There was an uninhibited, proud display of the leg at the 59th Grammy Awards, laying the ground for a very powerful display of female sensuality.

Perhaps it was mere coincidence that so many of these strong, gorgeous female celebrities were simultaneously exhibiting their legs on the red carpet. But to us, it drove home a powerful political statement on female sexuality.

That glamour can indeed be powerful. Especially when you flash your lithe legs in daring thigh-high slit gowns, with the whole world watching. An unbridled display of the power of glamour, isn’t it?

And you know what? The confidence it takes to be comfortable with one’s own sexuality makes it the perfect way to irritate those who still deny the power of femininity.

Why, didn’t Celine Dion look rather spectacular in her emerald green gown with her thigh-high slit heightening the power glam quotient?

Katharine McPhee, too, added some glamour to her black gown with a massive slit.

Glam diva Laverne Cox took things to another level with her bold, safety-pin dress. Her legs, however, made the biggest statement that night.

Katy Perry flashed her leg and looked every bit the diva she is.

Never one to shy away from exhibiting her gorgeous body, J Lo did not disappoint this time either.

Skylar Grey’s simple white-collared dress received a dramatic redefinition with her stunning cut.

Carrie Underwood channeled her inner diva with a stunning red number. The slit added a lot of oomph to her dress.

Kristin Cavallari, too, looked hot as hell in her black gown.

You know why this is important? Because back home in India, we are often slut-shamed for wearing clothes that reveal our legs. Let’s take some inspiration from our pop culture goddesses and be more comfortable in our bodies. Because ladies, the time has come to exercise our bodily autonomy.
