As the opening designer at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016, Varun Bahl sure gave the fashion week a promising start.

Bahl’s line, titled Nocturne, was meant for the woman “who has decided to give into her love for bohemian with abandon,” said the designer, adding that “she has become a fashion magpie, and picked up random motifs and textures to mix them together to create her fantasy”.

Long jackets and dresses in jacquard (the foliage at the dress’ top is in jacquard print) showed fine detailing. The little slit towards the end of the dress, otherwise restrained, took just a teeny bit of liberty.

Although the dresses, such as the one below, weren’t characteristically bold, they were fierce in their tailoring.

Organised by Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) in association with Maybelline New York, the week-long fashion show starts Wednesday, 16 March and goes on till Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, in the capital.

“Our new collection is for the woman of today expressed through elegance, balance and proportion. Contemporary embroideries and textures in a range of warm colours inspired from flora and fauna remain our much-loved thought to create this collection,” said Varun Bahl.

About the designer, Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India says, “Varun Bahl is known for his captivating silhouettes, understanding of what modern women desire and also evocative clothing which has marked his creative evolution. He will set the rhythm for the AIFWAW16.”
