Harbhajan Singh has confirmed that he has pulled out of IPL 2020 and will not be playing for Chennai Super Kings this season.

The spinner had not travelled to Dubai with the team and was still back home in India with his family in Jalandhar. In his tweet, he has asked for privacy as he spends time with his family.

‘Dear Friends, I will not be playing IPL this year due to personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy as I spend time with my family. CSK management has been extremely supportive and I wish them a great IPL. Stay safe and Jai Hind,’ he said in a Tweet.

Following the 40-year-old’s statement on Twitter, CSK too confirmed the news saying they support his decision.

‘Harbhajan Singh informed us he won’t be available due to personal reasons. Team Chennai Super Kings is supportive of his decision and stands by him and his family during these testing times,’ said the statement undersigned by the club’s CEO KS Viswanathan.

The spinner has been a part of the CSK over the past two years and has been one of the most successful bowlers in the history of IPL with 150 wickets.

The IPL starts on 19 September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This is the second instance of a player pulling out of the IPL with Chennai’s Suresh Raina too returning to India last Saturday due to ‘personal reasons’. It has since emerged that his relatives in Punjab had been attacked on 19 August with his uncle and cousin since succumbing to injuries.

CSK, meanwhile, are scheduled to start training from Friday after all their players, except the two who came out positive for coronavirus, tested negative for COVID-19 in their latest round of testing.
