Patna, June 6 (IANS) The Bihar School Examination Board on Wednesday declared the results of Class 12 examinations held in science, arts and commerce streams, with NEET topper Kalpana Kumari topping the science stream with 434 out of 500 marks.
In the science stream, only 44.5 per cent of the students who appeared in the exams passed. In the arts stream, the pass percentage was 61.31. As many as 91 per cent of the students passed in the commerce stream.
Nearly 12.61 lakh students appeared in the Class 12 exams this year.
BSEB Chairman Anand Kishore said that Kusum Kumari topped the arts stream with 424 marks, and Nidhi Sinha with 434 marks in the commerce stream.
"This year, the Class 12 results are better than last year. Overall, the pass percentage is 52.9 this year," Kishore said.
He said that the board used codes on answer sheets to ensure no unfair means was adopted during evaluation.
A senior board official claimed that a significant fall in the pass percentage vindicated their efforts to curb cheating in the exams.
This year, CCTVs were installed at the entrances to the examination halls and the proceedings videotaped during examinations. Use of all gadgets, including mobile phones, inside examination halls was disallowed.
