New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) Delhi Police on Thursday busted a gambling racket being allegedly run in a farm house and arrested 12 persons, including a woman from Nepal, from south Delhi.
"Dinesh Kumar (organizer), Naresh Dupa, Dheer Singh, Prem Singh, Vikas Kumar, Sanjeev Gupta, Amit Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Chand Ram, Devinder, Sunita lama and Gejender were arrested following a raid around 1 a.m. at a farm house, Green Meadows, located in Mehrauli's Satbari," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya told IANS.
"Majority of accused persons are businessman and also are the residents of Delhi's Mehrauli. A team of Mehrauli police received a tip-off that a group of people had been running a gambling racket in a farm house. They have been booked under the gambling Act," Baaniya said.
"Dinesh Kumar specially hired Sunita lama from Panji in Goa to distribute playing cards and to assist the players in gambling," The DCP said.
"A record register for distribution of chips and coins among players, Rs 1,000 cash, playing cards and 2300 chip coins were recovered," the officer added.
