Singapore, June 2 (IANS) The militaries of both China and the US should adhere to the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, as well as promote the development of ties between both nations, a senior Chinese military official said here on Saturday.
He lei, vice president of the Academy of Military Science of the Chinese People's liberation Army, made the remarks on the sidelines of the ongoing 17th Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-la Dialogue.
He is also the head of the Chinese delegation to the dialogue, which opened in Singapore on Friday and runs through Sunday.
China and the US shoulder important responsibilities in maintaining regional and global peace, He was cited as saying by Xinhua news agency.
The Chinese government and the Chinese people cherish and attach great importance to Sino-US ties as the two nations share plenty of common interests, he said, adding that Beijing hopes that both countries and militaries act in a manner that preserves global stability and further develops ties.
The Shangri-la Dialogue has been held annually since 2002 in Singapore, gathering military officials, diplomats and experts to discuss regional security challenges and prospects for cooperation.
