Last week, I was sifting through my photo albums from the 90s (you know, the paper bound ones) and I made a significant fashion discovery. I’m wearing denims in almost all of them.
I can quite clearly remember my favourite denim skirt from my school days – as also the denim jacket that I wore out through college.
Here’s the thing: denim is easy to wear, flatters all body types and is a staple in our ecosystem. Which is why I’m super stoked to see it resurfacing as one of the biggest trends this season! Here are a few quick ways to add a bit of denim to your dailies:
Kicks (sneakers) and denims are the best way to make a no-frills to a minimalistic appearance.
If you’re headed to work, feel free to work your denim jeans with a V-neck T shirt (white, grey and black are no-brainers) or a slightly formal top. Sailor stripes, ruffle tops and button down shirts are some of my favourites.
Want to look formal yet fashionable? Try a denim on denim trend with a mid-wash shirt and dark jeans. You can even try black or grey washed jeans.
There is literally nothing more comfortable than a pair of high-waisted, distressed denims. I live in mine because it helps you ace the no-effort ensemble.
Make the most of your distressed denims by pairing them with an off-shoulder number (another big trend). Spruce up your style statement with boho bracelets, a chunky neckpiece, a fringed bag or just great kitten heels. We like how Athiya Shetty makes the most of summer whites by wearing distressed jeans. Do you agree?
Getting too hot in the city? Head to your favourite café in a sturdy pair of denim shorts. Personally, I swear by everything that’s high or medium waist – and Parineeti Chopra seems to agree.
Feel free to complement it with any of the following items – an oversized shirt, a slogan tee, and/or contrasting boots.
Want to branch out a little in terms of the denim ensemble? You can’t go wrong with a button-down denim skirt.
In fact, knee-length denim skirts – with or without buttons – are a classic and can be worn on any old afternoon, a date or to the movies. Just pair with a white t-shirt when trying to look casual. Add wedge heels or a designer bag when you want to take things to the next level.
A rager amongst moms (and the rest of us in our 30s) are the staple 70s style hipster or bell bottom jeans.
Wide-legged jeans are a boon for those of us with pear-shaped figures (Amen!) and are super comfortable too. In fact, celebrity blogger Lauren Conrad swears by them.
Feel free to pair them with a sturdy pair of stilettos, kitten heels or wedges. These look great for the office, errand runs and a family night out too!
