Hollywood star Ashley Judd was in the Indian capital on Monday to attend the World Congress against sexual exploitation of women and girls. Speaking at the conference, Judd opened up about being a survivor of sexual assault.

I was molested for the first time at the age of seven, raped at the age of 14 and again in 1998.

She has been an active political activist and has been vocal against US President Donald Trump and his offensive statements about women.

She said she loved her country, but it “has a long way to go in obtaining full equality for girls and women”, adding that the average age of entry into prostitution in the US is 12 to 14.

A video of her performing a poem at the women’s march in Washington went viral recently.

Judd condemned the significant gender wage gap in hollywood, conceding that the earnings of her lifetime are 40 percent less, “simply because I am female”.
