Comedian and YouTuber Utsav Chakraborty has been accused of sending sexually explicit messages to women, including minors, on social media. It started as a Twitter thread about a group of Indian men’s obscene behaviour on-board a cruise, which Chakraborty condemned. A Twitter user, then, got on to the thread to talk about the worst-kept secret in the Indian comedy circuit – the sexual abuse faced by women at the hands of the male comics.
She started a thread condemning Utsav Chakraborty’s sexual misconduct with women, including minor girls. He has been accused of asking minors to send ‘nudes’.
Hours after the allegations, Utsav Chakraborty tweeted saying “the whole thing needs a lot of patience and an incredible amount of context.”
The Twitter user, then, went on to share examples of how Utsav Chakraborty had in fact sent sexually explicit messages to her and to many other women.
The thread opened a can of worms and more women started sharing their #MeToo stories.
And the messages haven’t stopped since.
