We are living in a time that never ceases to surprise us with its cruelty and inhumanity. An eight-year-old girl was raped and killed in the most horrific manner in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. She was kidnapped, drugged, raped repeatedly in a temple and finally murdered by being bashed on the head with a stone.

Her 'crime' in today's hate-infused India was that she was a Muslim Bakarwal.

Meanwhile in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, a young woman was allegedly raped by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. When she and her father protested, the father was detained by the police; he later died in police custody.

On Sunday, 15 April, the country erupted into protests to demand justice for the two girls. The posters at the protests struck a chord with the participants and with people on social media. Here is a glimpse.
