Dear Prime Minister sir,
I am Sushant Shetty, a 28-year-old Mechanical Engineer from Mumbai. Sir, I am a huge fan of your personality and the achievements of your government. I have been an ardent supporter of your policies on Swachh Bharat, Digital India, aggressive foreign policies, rural development policies and the fight against black money. Keep up the good work, the youth of the country backs you.
Sir, however, some incidents in the past few months have greatly disturbed me and many others. The brutal rape cases at Unnao and Kathua have shaken our senses to the core. What is more appalling is the involvement of police officials and members political parties in the abetment of the crimes. The audacity in which the crime has been committed, followed by attempts to threaten the victims and their families, is shocking.
The people in whom we’ve entrusted the responsibility of providing safety to women are now themselves complicit in the crimes.
In 2014, I voted specifically to see you as the leader of Bharat and in the hope of a better India.
There is a great deal of angst among us. As a citizen of India, I demand your intervention in these two incidents to ensure the perpetrators and those involved in blocking the judicial process including members of your own party be brought to justice.
I demand, sir, that you set a precedent that no rape in India will go unpunished and the most stringent punishments are meted out. Let there be fear of the judiciary when a perpetrator even thinks of outraging the modesty of a woman.
I have a few suggestions.
My suggestions to reduce crimes against women.
Sir, I commit to your dream of building a New India in 2022, where no woman in my country should feel unsafe. I trust you to lead us in the fulfilment of our dreams.
Jai Hind,
Sushant Shetty
