Modern day lifestyles come equipped with social media, smartphones, trans fat and most significantly, high paced jobs. As lifestyles become faster and faster, stress too reaches skyrocketting levels giving rise to multiple emotional and physical problems.
The first obvious impact of work related stress is on daily performance. A fall in efficiency is often accompanied by absenteeism. There might be failure to stick to deadlines and come up with new ideas, while also exhibiting lack of participation in day to day activities.
Work related stress includes some distinct emotional symptoms which should be identified and addressed as soon as possible.
Stress, if left unchecked, is likely to cause significant changes in a person’s behaviour and personality. From a change in eating habits to substance abuse to changes in sleep patterns to nervous behaviour -effects of stress can be vast and far-reaching.
In order to deal with workplace stress, it’s important to consciously inculcate a sense of confidence in one’s personality and work, to find purpose in the work at hand and, most importantly, to have a strong support system in the form of trusted colleagues.
