Actor Akshay Kumar did a “non-political interview” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In several interviews with journalist before, Modi has been asked about the “source of his unrelenting energy” and how he hardly sleeps.

This chat with Kumar takes that general theme further and they talk about his tips on curing cold, yoga, anger management and the likes.

Here are some of the desi nuskhe the PM swears by in daily life.

1. Water, Fast and Mustard Oil for Cold

PM Modi says that he goes on a fast among other things to treat a cold rather than going to a doctor.

If I get a cold, I drink warm water, go on fasting for two days and put mustard oil in nostrils. It burns a bit, but helps.

FIT tip: Drinking warm water can be soothing when you are battling a cold. Check with your doctor before opting for any route. The treatment would depend on the severity of your condition.

2. Obama’s Advice to Modi on Sleep

Akshay Kumar asked PM Modi, "You sleep only three-four hours, a body needs at least seven, right?"

Modi responded, "When President Obama met me for the first time he asked me why do you do this? Now whenever we meet he asks me have you increased the amount you slept or not?"

I only sleep for 3 hours and 30 minutes. My body cycle has adjusted to less sleep. I’m a workaholic and sleep for less time unintentionally and this could be my retirement plan to think about increasing my sleeping hours.

FIT tip: Several studies and experts suggest that humans should sleep at least 7-8 hours for good health. Lack of sleep can lead to health issues.

3. Anger Management Tips

On being asked how he deals with anger issues, Modi said he never gets easily angered and that surprises people. He continues to say “but it's a part of human nature. These are emotions that just spread negativity.”

Then he goes on to share tips on how to deal with negative emotions and anger – write it all down.

Whenever I got overwhelmed with emotions, I would write it all on a paper. Then I would analyse it. This helped me realise my own mistakes. But of course, I no longer have that much time. This is how I trained myself to respond to situations.
PM Modi

Talking about the importance of discipline: “Right from the time I began my career, I have never had an opportunity to express anger. There's a difference between anger and being strict. You just have to ensure discipline at times.”

4. Group Sports Over Individual Sports

When it comes to physical activity, it’s no surprise that he’s a fan of yoga, as he says.

But he goes on to talk about group sports vs individual sports.

To learn how to live life, one should play group games. I prefer group sports instead of individual ones. Group sports develop your personality in a different way, it teaches you team work, leadership etc.

Individual sports also contribute to personality development in a different way, he adds.

5. Cutting Down on Mango for Diet Control

He tells Akshay that he loved mangoes as a child and still does, but has had to cut down on eating them to keep a check on his diet.

I love mangoes. Gujarat has a tradition of aamras (sugared mango pulp) as well. But now, I need to control myself and think twice on how much I should eat.

In his childhood, he says, he didn’t have the luxury to buy mangoes given his family background but he used to directly pluck them from trees in the field.
