Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that occurs when a woman’s hormones are out of balance. It might sound like it's not that big a deal, but it can cause a lot of hindrances that make it difficult to function day to day basis.

Some of the most common PCOS symptoms are:

  • Excessive hair on the face and body

  • Acne

  • Hair Loss

  • Irregular periods

  • Fertility issues

  • Weight Gain

One might be visiting a doctor and find out they have PCOS, there are still things that nobody tells you about. And because of this lack of knowledge and awareness, people tend to say things without realising how harsh it may sound.

For example, a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges being the reason behind a woman’s irregular periods doesn’t seem to be a convenience when described like that, does it?

While PCOS does affect women of the child-bearing age, it still doesn’t mean one can’t get pregnant.

Therefore, using protection while having sexual intercourse is necessary regardless of whether or not you have PCOS.

It affects women's ability to have kids.

Irregular periods is just one thing. Because of an elevated level of testosterone, women with PCOS may experience hirsutism, the abnormal growth of body and facial hair, as well as thinning hair.

It can also lead to excessive body hair.

Many people feel a certain form of entitlement when they body-shame another person. Rarely do they ever understand how hurtful it can be.

The human mind and body are connected with each other. Therefore, one can affect the other. The hormonal wavering that women with PCOS experience can cause mood swings or emotional instability, which could be one of the symptoms of depression as well. Apart from the biological consequences, PCOS also has psychological effects too.

PCOS can also lead to anxiety and depression.
