Nearly a month after her miscarriage, Chrissy Teigen opened up about her harrowing experience of giving birth to a stillborn son in an essay published on Medium.
Model, entrepreneur and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen suffered a miscarriage on 30 September, as FIT earlier reported.
She and her husband, John Legend lost their third child, who they named Jack over halfway into the pregnancy. She added, “Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see.”
The 34-year-old had been documenting her pregnancy on social media, posting live updates on the complications and worries the family faced. She revealed she had been admitted to the hospital post severe and constant bleeding, put on bed rest and given several blood transfusions.
Teigen was diagnosed with partial placenta abruption.
Her post spoke of the kindness she has survived on, and how she is grateful for the love of friends and strangers. She also spoke of her husband John, adding, “A lot of people think of the woman in times like this but I will never forget that john also suffered through these past months while doing everything he could to take care of me. I am surrounded, in a human therapy blanket of love.”
Teigan’s honestly of the truth of miscarriage, the pain and the loss were applauded by many on social media who thought it could normalising an extremely agonizing yet common experience for women across the globe. Hopefully, sensitive posts like these will help erase the shame and stigma associated with miscarriages.
However, women’s health is shrouded in such stigma that a few people posted negative comments on her raw pictures. To them, she said,
She emphasized her power of choice and how the pictures served the purpose of demystifying such a distressing experience.
