Breaking all taboos associated with menstrual cycle, a girls’ only college in Lucknow has planned to set up sanitary napkin vending machine inside campus. This is first such initiative taken by any college in the state.

Students of Avadh Girls’ Degree College (AGDC) have hailed the step. It will now save them from the embarrassment of asking around for a sanitary napkin. For Rs 10, the machine which is installed in the washrooms will dispose a sanitary napkin.

Plans are on the anvil of establishing these machines in one of the girls’ hostels. The college claims to have taken inspiration from entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, who won the 2009 Best Innovation Award for his sanitary napkin dispensing machine which did not need much investment.
