One serious issue which is rampant in many parts of India is the gross burning of used car tyres and used plastic goods in isolated places. The toxicity of emissions from such burning is many orders of magnitude higher than the typical cooking smoke or restaurant chimneys.
This has serious impacts on the health of citizens living around the area. Our country needs to come up with stringent laws to tackle this menace. It is high time our officials consider employing a sustainable long term plastic and tyre disposal system which can prevent such toxic and carcinogenic fumes spreading into rural and urban neighbourhoods. After all, health is wealth, as they say!
