Fresh on the heels of the belly button challenge, comes another bizarre and totally random body shaming trend - The Collarbone Challenge. The trend, which started in China, involves stacking a row of coins in your collarbone - the more you are able to stack, the skinnier you are supposed to be!

Sexy or Silly?

First it was the “Thigh Gap Test”, then the “Belly Button Challenge”. And if that wasn’t enough, now there’s yet another ridiculous viral trend, “The Collarbone Challenge” (Photo: Twitter/@gxbrielle_o)

The number of coins you can balance on your collarbone says absolutely nothing about your sex appeal, let alone your health or weight. But while these challenges, first belly button and now collarbone, may just seem silly, experts say they could pose a danger to some people.

Social media is a powerful tool these days. If your friends have instagrammed a challenge and you can’t complete it stokes comparison, fuels insecurity and promotes a body image disorder.

But look, people are just emptying their piggy banks to jump on board:

Let’s just get this straight once and for all - being a specific size or shape has got nothing to do with how attractive you are. And skinny does not mean healthy. What’s healthy for one body isn’t necessarily healthy for another. And attractive? That too has got nothing to do with size, shape or the ability to balance a row of coins on a weird body part.

How attractive you are isn’t determined by any of these other things, either. Just in case we all need a reminder (Photo: Instagram/hyokriizth)

And then there are these ridiculous spin offs!

Stop participating in such ridiculous trends. It won’t make body acceptance and positivity the norm overnight, but it’ll go a long way towards helping us get there. All bodies are awesome, because they let us do so many amazing things. End of story.
