Indians are tired out of their wits, and nobody seems to be talking about it. According to a recently released report by Mintel, for 22 percent Indians, i.e one in every five between the age of 18 and 64, the biggest health issue is fatigue. In fact, among women, the figure increases.

Add to the mix toxic levels of pollution and a growing rate of heart disease and other chronic ailments, and Indians are one of the world’s most over-worked and tired people.

Last June, the market intelligence company surveyed 3,029 Indians.

The results of the survey are not surprising given that Indians log in over 2,000 hours of work every year and are the fourth-most vacation deprived, preceded by people from Spain, UAE, Malaysia and South Korea.

An earlier report stated that Indian millennials spend the most time in their offices, working an average of 52 hours per week, while in Japan – even with its hardworking culture – the average is 46 hours a week.

The United Kingdom and Australia, however, have standard working hours of 41 hours per week.

It’s a warning sign to think about, given that long-term fatigue will in all likelihood lead to a larger, more serious public health issue. Perhaps we should take the phone off the hook, maybe take that long overdue vacation, and think about what we’re doing to ourselves.
