"We didn't train for a film, we trained to be a boxer," says Actor Farhan Actor in a behind the scenes, mini-documentary of his upcoming sports drama film, Toofan.
The film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is slated to release on 16 July, Farhan Akhtar will be seen playing the role of a boxer.
Amazon Prime has released a BTS video giving a glimse of the preparation and training it took for the actor to transform into a professional sportsman.
"Roughly 5 to 6 months was spent on learning the ABCs, all techniques, physically preparing myself," says Farhan Akhtar in the video, adding that boxing was a 'completely alien' sport to him.
In the video, the actors trainers speak of the process and the regimen it took to build a sportsman out of an actor from the ground up.
So what goes into making a pro athlete?
Akhtar's fitness trainer, Samir Jaura, in the video, describes his everyday routine as being this,
In the morning: Boxing training for 2 hours.
In the afternoon: Rehab session with a physiotherapist.
In the evening: Strengthening session with the fitness trainer.
In the video, the film's co-producer and fight coordinator Darrel Foster also speaks of the mental space of an athlete and the process of getting the actor there.
"You realise what you're capable of and not capable of," he adds.
