The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 results were declared on Thursday, 2 May. Around 13 lakh students had appeared for the board examinations this year. The overall passing percentage recorded was 83.4 percent.

However, students tend to go through anxiety related to the results. Exam stress has the power to alter your future, the one that you might have imagined for yourself.

So how should you deal with the anxiety? Dr Sameer Malhotra, Head of the Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Max Hospital gives you five tips on how to cope with exam results. This advisory is not just for students but their parents as well.

Don’t Limit Yourself

In the times we live in, there are always plenty of options. Look for new courses that are coming up in universities, there’s no need to have only one target in your head.

Make Plan ‘A’ and Plan ‘B’

Plan A can be the subject of your choice, something that you’re passionate about. Give Plan A your best effort.

But if that isn’t possible, then Plan B should always be ready. Sometimes Plan B can end up even better than Plan A.

Keep Family & Friends In the Loop

Keep channels of communication with family and friends open. Involve them in the decision-making process. Don’t isolate yourself. Use your connections to explore the best options that are now available to you.

Get a Foot in the Door

Engage in dialogue with people who are already working in the particular field of your interest, so that you get a better insight and understanding of the area you’re interested in to decide whether it’s best for you.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask For Help

If you’re feeling low or miserable, or if suicidal thoughts are running through your head, reach out and seek help – counsellors are equipped to help you through it.

Always remember that this is not the final exam of your life, you are blessed with so many potentialities that you can explore.

This is not the end of the road, but just a beginning of another journey.
