The positive number of cases in the country crossed 70,000-mark on Tuesday, 12 May.

As per the numbers released by the Union Health Ministry, the total number of cases stood at 70,756 and the death toll at 2,293. The number of active cases is 46,008.

Out of the total cases, 22,454 have recovered and 1 has migrated.

Further, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of cases with 23,401 followed by Gujarat with 8,541, Delhi with 7,233, Tamil Nadu with 8,002 and Rajasthan with 3,988.

Madhya Pradesh has recorded 3,785 cases and UP (3,573) so far.

Maharashtra is also the state with maximum number of deaths (868) followed by Gujarat (513), Madhya Pradesh (221), West Bengal (190), Rajasthan (113) and Delhi (73).

States such as Goa, Manipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh don't have any active cases as positive patients have recovered.

The ministry on its website also said, "The case status will be updated on the website only once a day in the morning instead of twice a day, as being done presently."

"States wise distribution is subject to further verification and reconciliation", it added.
