Cancer is the second leading cause of deaths around the world after heart diseases.

It can come in different forms, in different parts of the body and have varied consequences.

Although there isn't a cure for cancer yet, promising treatments like chemotherapy offer patients hopes of living renewed cancer free lives.

There are also certain steps one can take steps to fight inflammation and consequently lower the risk of cancer. You can do this by incorporating these cancer-fighting foods to your diet.

1) Berries

In a 2013 Animal Study published by Anti-Cancer Research, researchers found that strawberries have a great potential in minimising the tumor growth among the oral cancer patients. Other study by International Journal of Molecular Sciences in 2015 pointed out that berries are the best source of bioactive compounds which are among the world's most potent anti-oxidants.

2) Carrots

Carrots have always been the world's one of the healthiest vegetables but besides that several studies have proved that carrot consumption helps in the prevention of variety of cancers for example it helps prevent the gastric cancer according to the study revealed in Journal of Gastric Cancer in 2015. Additionally, other study published by the European Journal of Nutrition shows that carrot consumption is effective in reducing the risk of prostate cancer.

3) Cinnamon

Cinnamon is one of the most priced spices in Ayurveda or traditional medicine.

The study by BMC cancer in 2019 proves that cinnamon can kill cancer tumors. The researchers were able to prove its efficacy to fight various types of cancer including cervical cancer, lymphoma, melanoma and colorectal cancer.

4) Cruciferous Vegetables

These vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, kale and radishes are rich in a substance called 'sulforaphane'. According to the Clinical Cancer Research in 2015, this substance has the potential to fight the breast cancer stem cells.

Additionally, this substance has proven to prevent the prostate cancer as well. Since breast cancer and prostate cancer are two common cancer, the affect of of the cruciferous vegetables can be significant.

5) Fatty Fish

Fatty fish like Salmon, Mackerels, sardines and herring are rich in essential fatty acids. Fatty acids like Omega-3s is essential in fighting cancer.

Consumption of fish rich in Omega-3s not only helps fight cancer but the other complications caused by these diseases.

6) Garlic

Garlic is rich in allicin, a biologically active component that is used in a variety of natural treatments.

Studies in 2015 on Cancer and Nutrition found that allicin extracted from garlic has been effective in killing the colon cancer cells. Garlic being an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic substance reduces the risk of cancer and other diseases as well.

7) Nuts and Seeds

These are among the healthiest sources of good fats.

People who consume nuts are less likely to suffer from cancer and are more likely to live longer. Though there are plenty of healthy nuts that walnuts and almonds are the best choices.

Among seeds, flaxseeds and chia seeds are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, Omega-3 and Omega-6 that have anti-cancer as well as anti-inflammatory properties.

8) Spinach

All leafy green vegetables are good for our health but spinach is among the most beneficial yet inexpensive foods to eat to fight cancer. Spinach is filled with flavanols, carotenoids, vitamin C and fiber that are effective in cancer prevention.

9) Legumes

Legumes like beans, chickpeas and lentils are rich in dietary fibers which have all proven to reduce the risk of variety of cancer.

Researchers found that consumption of legumes in regular diet reduces the cancer of colon, ovary, lungs and prostate.

10) Turmeric

Ginger has always believed to be a miracle for its anti-inflammatory properties, but turmeric which is considered its close relative is even more beneficial as it is said to have anti-cancer properties.

Curcumin extracted from turmeric is said to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the bones. This is one of the most important findings since most cancers generally affect the bones.

11) Tomatoes

Tomatoes are not only beneficial for the over all health but is beneficial in fighting prostate cancer as well. Fresh tomatoes or the products derived from it are rich in lycopene. This nutrient present in tomatoes is useful for protection against cellular damage and cancer

Even if you don't have a family history of cancer or any symptoms of cancer, including these foods will make your body ready for fighting against other diseases as well. You will accomplish a level of healthy eating with the little changes in your diet.
