Are you an unmarried woman? Do you think twice before visiting a gynaecologist? Do you feel your gynaecologist is more concerned about you being a sanskaari woman than caring for your physical and sexual well being?
If the answer to all these questions is ‘yes’ then you must definitely consider signing this online petition by a non-profit organization called Haiyya.
The campaign titled ‘Health Over Stigma’ outlines 10 behavioral commandments for the gynaecologists to adhere to so that young, unmarried women don’t hesitate to visit gynaecologists due to fear, shame and embarrassment.
The petition to ‘Protect Sexual Health Rights of Unmarried Women in India’ is directed towards The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) who must direct all their members to follow the ten commandments.
The Quint feels that ‘moral policing’ by gynaecologists should stop as access to proper healthcare services must be the right of every woman – irrespective of her marital status!
