Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan says the idea of his forthcoming film FAN – the story of a fan’s obsession with a star – was first narrated to him by late veteran filmmaker, Yash Chopra. The superstar is glad that he could bring the idea to life.

The 50-year-old star shared the piece of information during an episode of Colors’ show Comedy Nights Bachao.

Very few people know that the concept of FAN was first narrated to me by Yashji about 10 years ago. While I was excited to explore the idea back then, for some reason it never happened. Today, I’m glad we could bring his idea to life.

‘The Poster of Fan is My Dream Come True’

A story conceptualised by Maneesh Sharma, the Band Baaja Baraat director had discussed the idea of FAN with Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra. Adi, in turn, had asked Sharma to work on a couple of films before going ahead with such an “ambitious” project. (Read Maneesh Sharma’s full interview with The Quint.)

It was my dream. I wanted to work in Bollywood, I wanted to make movies and I wanted to see a poster, which would say starring Shah Rukh Khan, Produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Maneesh Sharma. The poster of FAN is my dream that’s come true!

FAN has been shot in various locations in Mumbai, Croatia and Delhi. The film will bring forward a story about a fan’s obsession with a star, and how the admiration turns into malice when the star dispels his love for him.
