Controversies and Bigg Boss go hand in hand. In fact the primary reason for the show’s massive success is its controversial content. And of course the choice of contestants has everything to do with it. So as we wait for Bigg Boss season 9, here’s a quick flashback of the eight biggest controversies from the Bigg Boss house, that are nothing less than the chat masala of Indian television.
People talk about chemistry between couples in the Bigg Boss, but in season eight, we were more interested in the chemistry (or the lack of it) between Sambhavna Seth and Dimpy. Sambhavna left no stone unturned in bitching Rahul Mahajan’s ex-wife Dimpy out, but things got out of hand when Sambhavna physically pushed Dimpy during the final task of the season. During their lash out, Dimpy called Sambhavna ‘Deoo’, which she claims is another word for prostitute. Sambhavna obviously got offended by Dimpy’s remark and demanded that she be called into the confession room. Later Sambhavana packed her bags and banged the door of the Bigg Boss house, saying that if they didn’t let her out, she might beat the hell out of Dimpy. Sambhavna was let go in a mid-week eviction, the very next day.
Kushal, the lover boy, created quite the drama to protect his lady love Gauhar Khan. During a task, Andy fiddled with Gauhar’s personal belongings. Once the task was over, Kushal saw Gauhar upset by this and charged towards Andy to hit him. Since it is against the rules of the game to hit a fellow contestant, Kushal was asked to leave the house and Gauhar decided to walk out with him. Kushal was back on the show three weeks later.
Now it’s Imam Siddiqui we are talking about. He goes a step further and takes his fight beyond the contestants, right up to the host. On many occasions, he made absurd, statements about Salman Khan, which drove Salman up the wall. He almost flipped out at Imam when he called out ‘Time Out’ to Salman. It doesn’t end here. How can we forget Dolly Bindra, who was the epicenter of ugly fights all through season 6? She was at war with almost every contestant on the show. But her showdown with Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari got really ugly at one point.
This season had not one but two hosts, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. When the show started, Salman and Sanjay ridiculed one of the house mates, actor Shakti Kapoor, saying, “Bigg Boss ko maanna padega! Shakti Kapoor jaise logon ko apne ghar bulaya, hum toh kabhi na bulayein!”. Shakti was hurt by these remarks and demanded an apology from Salman, however, neither Khan nor Dutt came around to it.
Pakistani actress Veena Malik was the talking point of the fourth season, following her intimacy with actor Ashmit Patel. Their almost obscene PDA caused mayhem among Bigg Boss fans across the country. A Pakistani citizen named Mian Muhammad Iqbal even filed a case against Malik in a Lahore court, terming her behaviour as ‘un-Islamic’. But that didn’t stop or change anything.
Kamal R Khan was hounded by controversies during his stay in season 3. He was finally eliminated from the show after he hurled a bottle at Rohit Verma, that actually ended up hitting actress Shamita Shetty instead. All hell broke loose.
Raja Chaudhary and Sambhavna Seth were in the news in season 2, for two contrasting reasons. They abused each other left right and centre, before getting really intimate. They were even caught kissing on the show. Their fights were definitely juicier than their romance.
Rakhi Sawant is a walking talking controversy. Bigg Boss season 1 had many characters of Rakhi’s calibre like Kashmeera Shah and Rahul Roy. Rakhi had made a huge hue and cry about her mug being used by others, While she bawled, others decided to royally ignore her. Her rivalry with Kashmeera Shah spilled over the four walls of the house as well. They turned foes after one of them told the remaining housemates what the other had said behind their backs.
