Udta Punjab was leaked online on Wednesday – just two days ahead of its scheduled release in theatres. But the film’s team managed to remove it online on war footing from torrent sites. Later, they also reportedly filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell against the leak.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was discovered that Abhishek Chaubey-directed film was available on torrent sites for illegal download. However, soon the download links were “removed due to a copyright complaint”.

According to the snapshots from the leaked copy – available on multiple online platforms – it was seemingly the copy submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It even featured scenes that the Censor Board had objected to.

The leaked copy reportedly had a running time of two hours 20 minutes.

Udta Punjab has been in news after the censor board suggested that the makers alter the movie by 89 cuts. Later, it went to the Revising Committee, which brought it down to 13 cuts. However, the Bombay High Court on Monday gave the film a green signal for release after making just one cut and inserting three disclaimers.
