Amazon Prime’s hit The Marvelous Mrs Maisel won 5 awards, including Best Series, at the 2018 Primetime Emmys on Sunday, effectively dominating the comedy category. It also achieved the landmark of becoming the first show produced by a streaming platform to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Star Rachel Brosnahan took home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy series trophy for the acclaimed show.
The ceremony also marked first wins for series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, receiving both Best Writing and Best Directing for a Comedy Series. Amy, who is a fan favourite for creating shows like Gilmore Girls and Bunheads, had surprisingly never won an Emmy before, and had only been nominated once earlier.
Also winning for Mrs Maisel was Alex Bornstein who nabbed Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
The period-comedy is a huge success, particularly for Amy, whose last few projects had failed to take off. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel released in November last year to great reviews and audience response. Amazon has renewed the show for two more seasons, the first of which is set to premiere later this year.
