When the news of CID, one of the longest running investigative series on Indian television going off-air started doing the rounds, fans went berserk. The iconic show starring Shivaji Satam is the stuff of memes and nostalgia.

Sony TV has clarified that the show is not discontinued but is set to take a season break. ‘Having completed 20 years, CID is the longest running cult show on Sony Entertainment Television. It has been a great journey so far, along with Fireworks Productions, and CID will now take an intermittent break starting October 28. The show will gear up for a renewed season with a lot more contextual cases keeping alive the thrill that the audience has experienced so far,’ a statement from the channel said.

A source close to the show told The Indian Express, “CID is not wrapping up. But it is going on a short break and that’s only for a creative reason. The makers haven’t received any closure letter from the channel that proves that they are still in contract with them. The break has been decided mutually by the makers and channel as they want to reboot the show.”

The source also added that the producers of the show will take this time to decide on the new format of the show.

The show began airing on Sony TV in 1997.
