Pehredaar Piya Ki makers seem to think that they’ve found the perfect solution to those accusing the show of promoting child marriage. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the controversial show is going to take a 12-year leap.
The show has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, even before it aired on television. The storyline revolves around the marriage of 10-year-old Ratan Singh to 18-year-old Diya. But according to the report, the leap was planned before a petition to ban the show began making the rounds.
A Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) advisory was also sent to the makers to change the time slot of the show from 9 PM to 10 PM.
Despite outrage about the controversial plotline, the makers have been defending the show and claim that the leap is not a damage control measure.
On hearing about the leap, petitioner Mansi Jain says that she’s “happy that our voices are heard and taken account for”. She also said that she will be closing the petition once the leap takes place on the show.
