It looks like the controversy around TV show Pehredaar Piya ki has no clear end in sight. It all started when actor Karan Wahi tweeted about the show being regressive. A petition has been filed by a girl, Mansi Jain calling for a ban on the show, which is aired on Sony Entertainment. So the makers of the show, Sumeet and Shashi Mittal organised a press conference to defend their show.
We covered the press conference to see if there was anything we were missing out in the entire debate about the show’s regressive plotline. Take a look at the press conference here:
We were proved wrong. The makers of the show defended the show and its premise till the very end and made no mention of changing the context of the show. Where a lot of Indians are showing concerns about various negative aspects of the show, the makers refuse to accept any fault in it. Shashi Mittal, the writer of the show takes pride in the concept and is not happy with the demand for a ban on Pehredaar Piya Ki.
The only question that rises in our mind as a viewer is why doesn't Diya become the guardian of Ratan? Taking responsibility of Ratan being a friend or a guardian would have been easy but for the makers that wouldn’t have been enough masala to put forward to the viewers.
When asked about the “scenes” being pitted as objectionable by the viewers, the makers continued to defend their show.
When asked about the show’s portrayal of child marriage, the makers still couldn’t stop defending themselves.
Well, dear makers of the show, child marriage remains what it is, no matter what its premise.
According to the makers, most of the people who have signed the petition have not watched the show.
