Karan Johar brings together Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan on the Koffee couch. From inside jokes to anecdotes, this episode of Koffee With Karan had many revelations.
Without further ado, here are the highlights!
Karan Johar introduces the siblings on the show and talks about how they go way back. KJo, the south Bombay boy, spoke about struggling to get into B-town’s “inner circle” which included Aditya and Uday Chopra, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar, Ekta and Tushar Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, besides the Bachchan siblings. KJo apologised at the onset about the episode being “too inside” because of how close he is to the sibs. But that’s what we love about the show - how Karan makes them so comfortable on the couch - that they’re almost themselves.
And Ab Junior goes on to make many jokes at Karan’s expense (without the latter taking offence), to prove how thick they are.
Karan even loses it at one point and screams, “Can I speak? It’s my show!”
Shweta explains how Abhishek continues to be Jaya Bachchan’s favourite. How do we know this? Jaya’s “eyes light up” when she sees her son.
“The reaction she has to Shah Rukh when she sees him in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, is exactly what she has for Abhishek, minus the aarti ka thali”.
LOL!
Shweta Bachchan Nanda does not want her children, Navya Naveli and Agastya to be a part of the industry because she has described it as a “dark, unstable, unfortunate place”. With every star kid being launched as if Bollywood is the only profession left in the world, this is a refreshing change. Shweta talks about watching her parents’ struggle, as well as watching her brother, Abhishek and sister-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the business.
Even Abhishek admitted about getting complacent and taking a two-year break. Ab Junior said how he didn’t come into the industry “to stand behind anyone”. Abhishek candidly spoke about moving from centre of the frame to the left and how heartbreaking it was for him.
Abhishek left no stone unturned to roast Karan or even his sister, Shweta on the show. From calling Karan a shining star to making sure he wins the last round, he made the episode among the most entertaining. Abhishek may have lost the Rapid Fire round, but he won our hearts with his humour!
