Singer and TV actor Karan Oberoi, after being arrested on 6 May, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Andheri court, news agency ANI reported on Thursday.
Earlier, Karan Oberoi had been sent to police custody by a Mumbai court till 9 May for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman.
An FIR has been registered at Oshiwara Police Station under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion). The actor reportedly duped the woman under the pretext of marrying her. The FIR alleges that he not only raped her and filmed the act but also threatened to release the video unless she paid him the money he demanded.
A report in Mumbai Mirror mentions that Oberoi met the woman in October 2016. According to the publication, the woman wrote in her FIR: “Using the video, he blackmailed me and took money from me. However, whenever I asked him about marriage he kept ignoring it and would ask for more money. Recently, when I insisted on the marriage, he threatened me and said do whatever you want to do.”
Karan Oberoi is a TV actor who has featured on shows such as Saaya, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and, most recently, 2017 web series Inside Edge. He is also a member of pop group A Band of Boys, which was formed in the early aughts.
