Disney announced on Tuesday that it will be ending its partnership with Netflix in 2019. The company will be launching its own streaming service online and will be acquiring majority stake in BAMTech, another streaming service.
Dsiney’s ESPN network’s ratings have been falling because more people are consuming entertainment through streaming services.
According to a report in CNN, Disney is paying $1.58 billion for majority ownership of BAMTech.
Disney is slated to launch two streaming services; one ESPN-branded in 2018 and another Disney-branded one in 2019.
US viewers will be able to watch Disney’s live-action and animated films from Disney and Pixar only on those streaming services.
According to the report, “the ESPN-branded sports service will offer about 10,000 events a year, including live programming with regional, national and international games”.
