Nana Patekar and Vivek Agnihotri slap legal notices against Tanushree
“I find it a very frivolous conversation whether ‘Bollywood stands with you or not’. Truth doesn’t need a PR. If you believe it, go out there and speak it. Do not expect anyone to hold your hands and support you. Bollywood is a great place. You can expect support for award ceremonies, weddings and funerals,” Pooja Bhatt told the media at the closing ceremony of 9th Jagran Film Festival.
“It is important to change, acknowledge and accept our mistakes. It’s important that we, this goes even for me, introspect and see the wrongs we have done. It’s time we all grew up. It’s the fault of the entire system, the conditioning,” Anurag Kashyap said at closing ceremony.
According to a report in News18, Tanushree Dutta has been sent a legal notice by Nana Patekar’s lawyers. Patekar reportedly seeks a public apology from the actor for defaming him.
According to Tanushree’s spokesperson, she hasn’t yet received any legal notice.
Dimple Kapadia Had Earlier Pointed Out Nana Patekar’s Dark Side
In an interview to Anupama Chopra, about eight years ago, Dimple Kapadia spoke about how ‘obnoxious’ she found Nana Patekar, with whom she shared screen space in films like Krantiveer.
"As far as his talent goes, there's no match to him. He is an extremely talented man. When I see talent like him, sau khoon maaf hai. Sab kuch maaf hai. Meri jaan bhi lelo. (When I see talent like him, 100 murders are forgiven. Everything can be forgiven. Take my life too). That's the effect he has on me. But, as a person, with me he has been very, very nice, kind and a good friend. But I have also seen his dark side. We all have a dark side which is nicely and safely kept aside." she said.
Tanushree Dutta has been in the limelight since she levelled allegations against Nana Patekar. The former model and actor has been giving interviews non-stop and has decided to take a break. "This is not a news story anymore my friends, this is a war..," she told reporter Nishtha Jha.

The footage of Tanushree’s car being attacked and vandalised in 2008, while she and her elderly parents were in it, has now resurfaced due to the controversy.
Tanushree Dutta in an interview had alleged that, after she refused to do some intimate dance steps with Nana Patekar, he called the MNS party to further harass her and the producers called in the media to get some publicity from the incident. Read more here.
Actor Varun Dhawan has applauded the courage of actress Tanushree Dutta, who has spoken out about experiencing sexual harassment.
Tanushree, a decade after she first named Nana Patekar for harassing her on the sets of a film, has once again spoken out about the ordeal in the wake of the global #MeToo movement. Several celebrities have spoken out in support of the need for several others to come out about their experience.
According to IANS, Varun, who was present at the ninth Jagran Film Festival's closing ceremony here on Sunday night, was asked to comment on Tanushree's claim.
He said: "I have been busy with 'Sui Dhaaga', so I haven't really heard the whole story, but I think what's most important at a work place is respect -- whether for a woman, man or a child. We want to make our industry a safe place and everyone deserves equal respect. Also if someone is openly talking about the issue, we should hear them out. It takes great courage to talk about it and I applaud that courage."
Actor Tanushree Dutta has released another statement on MNS workers attacking her car on the day she protested against Nana Patekar’s alleged harassment. She has urged people to go through old footage of the attack and not believe the lies that are being propagated against her.
On 2 October, Tanushree Dutta once again reiterated that she did not receive any legal notice from Nana Patekar.
“I haven't received any notice(from Nata Patekar). These threats are put so that others like me would be scared to come forward. Any one with a similar experience shouldn't worry about these kind of intimidation tactics. The whole nation will support them,” said Tanushree Dutta to ANI.
On the other hand, Nana Patekar’s lawyer told ANI that they are in the “process of sending a legal notice” to Tanushree.
"In process of a sending legal notice to Tanushree Dutta, as she has made false allegations and has spoken untruth. We will send the notice later today which will basically a notice seeking apology for her statements making allegations," Nana Patekar’s lawyer told ANI.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Tanushree made it clear that she doesn’t want a lip service from Bollywood celebrities. She wants concrete action taken against her perpetrators.
“The support and all is fine, I am very grateful for it but where is the result? I want Bollywood to come forward and say we wont work with Nana Patekar. I understood and agreed that people believe me but the next hashtag should be I will not work with Nana Patekar, not just him but the other people too,” said Tanushree to Pinkvilla.
Tanushree also elaborated on why she isn’t afraid to speak out. “I have nothing to lose, no? Any kind of moment happens by people who have nothing to lose. because people who have a lot to lose never come forward. Back then, I had a lot to lose, still I spoke. But that time I spoke because I had to prevent myself. This time it is for a far more greater cause,” she said.

Tanushree Dutta, in her latest statement, claims that MNS party has threatened her with a violent attack. In response to this, Mumbai Police has reportedly offered the former actor 24-hour protection.
"Amidst all this the Mumbai police has reached out and offered their support. They have promised me 24 hours police protection and have posted their armed personnel around my home. After Tanushree Dutta accused actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment, the Cine & TV Artists Association (CINTAA) strongly condemned any act that outrages the modesty of any individual, according to IANS.
A statement released on Tuesday said: "CINTAA strongly condemns any act that outrages the modesty of any individual and any form of sexual harassment is unacceptable to us. After going through Tanushree Dutta's complaint, which was filed with the then Executive Committee of CINTAA in March 2008, we feel that the decision was taken in the Joint Dispute Settlement Committee of CINTAA and Indian Film and TV Producers Council (which was then known as Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers) in July 2008 was not appropriate, as the chief grievance of sexual harassment wasn't even addressed."
She had first levelled harassment accusations against Nana in 2008 after the incident took place on the sets of the film Horn Ok Pleassss.
While the CINTAA officials have urged every member of their association to file complaint of sexual harassment immediately after facing it, the authority mentioned: "Unfortunately, CINTAA's constitution bars us from taking up any case which is more than three years old. Hence, we appeal to the authorities to take cognizance of Ms Dutta's statements and conduct an impartial and speedy enquiry so that truth and justice may prevail."
ANI reports that Union Minister Maneka Gandhi weighed in on Tanushree Dutta’s allegations against Nana Patekar and came forward to support her. She assured that NCW would investigate every complaint.
She accompanied her Instagram post with a long message, part of which reads, ‘India - Stand Up, Speak Up. Don't look to just your superstars to speak up. Be your own role models and follow the voice of your conscience. Follow the truth and stand by a woman's right to be her own wind keeper. You may just end up setting an example for many others who probably need your grit and courage to speak up.
I SUPPORT TANUSHREE DUTTA.’
Actor Shakti Kapoor on Tuesday mocked Tanushree Dutta’s allegations of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar. At a press conference, Shakti was asked for a reaction to the ongoing controversy in which Tanushree Dutta has accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her while shooting for a song in 2008. After hearing out the question, Shakti Kapoor is heard saying, “I don’t know anything about this. It happened 10 years ago, I was a small kid back then,” following which he is seen smirking and the crowd at the press conference laughing.
If the silence of Bollywood’s big guns around Tanushree’s allegations wasn’t shocking enough, the mocking of a sexual harassment charge by members of the film industry almost seems unbelievable.
MNS member Ameya Khopkar on Tuesday (October 2) rubbished Tanushree's accusations against his party. “I had shared a clip of the incident where her car was attacked. In that clip, you can see that a few media representatives attacked her car after she had some argument with them. No MNS worker or leader can been seen because we were never there,” he said.
He also said that Tanushree is pulling a publicity stunt and the party will not give her any publicity in the matter. “We did not want to react to her allegations, but she levelled attacks on Raj Thackeray, and thus we are reacting now. All her allegations against my party are baseless. Why did Tanushree remain silent for 10 years?” added Khopkar.

Tanushree Dutta has been slapped with two legal notices – one from Nana Patekar and another from Vivek Agnihotri, reported ANI. The Bollywood actress said, “This is the price you pay for speaking out against harassment, humiliation and injustice in India.”
Dutta also alleged that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena(MNS) has been issuing violent threats. She told ANI, “ I'm being threatened to be dragged to the court and the legal system of India, as we all know, can keep a woman, her supporters and even the media silent on the pretext of 'matter sub judice'.”
While speaking to NDTV, Kajol has accepted that sexual harassment is ‘definitely a reality’. She also said that she was not fully aware of the allegations levelled by Tanushree Dutta. She went on to say, “I’ve never seen it but I have heard about it and it’s always in rumour form. You never know it, no one is going to come up to you and say ‘Hey, I did this!’ I don’t know how much of it is actually the truth or not. If it had happened in front of me, I’m sure I would have stood up or done something about it. Never happened to me. I don’t think it would have happened in front of me.”
She added that the malaise is not restricted to the industry. She also acknowledged the relevance of the #MeToo movement.
Asked whether she feels that Tanushree's outburst is a start of the #MeToo movement in India, Parineeti said: "Honestly, I really hope that it's not a start of #MeToo movement because it will mean that there are a lot more stories like this and I really hope this is first and last story if it is true.
"I really hope this is not the start. Having said that, if there are any victims, especially women in the industry, then I want every woman to come out in the open and speak because if they don't speak now, they will forever be suppressed."
According to IANS, she also added: "This is something serious that has happened to somebody and it's the worst thing that can happen to a woman. If we can't feel protected in our industry and in our country, then how can I do anything? So, I hope this is all untrue and I hope this has not happened, but if it has then we will all support her.”

Kesarkar, the minister of state for home (rural), also asserted that the government was not biased towards Patekar. The Shiv Sena minister had said that Patekar is an "illustrious personality" who had done a lot for the state, and asked why Dutta did not file a police complaint in the past 10 years.
Speaking to PTI reporters on Thursday, 4 October, Kesarkar said, "When an official complaint is lodged, police will be able to probe the case transparently so that justice is done to both the sides."

“As an actor, I often experience what Tanushree has experienced on almost a daily basis. My voice silenced, my words manipulated, twisted and used for the wrong reasons. I have had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented females in all kinds of respective roles within the business,” she wrote.
“Sadly I have been disappointed with the way some of these women (and others within my working environment) have remained absent during such traumatic and difficult situations and were merely witnessing if not taking advantage themselves,” she added, reports PTI.

“Should I tell you the truth? I feel that day she was on her periods. So, you get irritated. Small touch or maybe something else, even I don’t know what exactly happened because I wasn’t there,” Samee Siddiqui was caught saying.
The fact that Samee was not there, did not stop him from giving his assessment of why Tanushree felt the way she did, reports The News Minute. Read more here.

Actor Nana Patekar on Saturday pushed aside the mics at the airport here as media persons urged him to answer questions about Tanushree Dutta's allegation that he sexually harassed her on the set of a film a decade ago. Later, he said that lies will remain lies.
Nana was on his way from Jodhpur to catch a flight to Mumbai when paparazzi questioned him about the accusations. The actor avoided the questions and made his way straight into the airport without saying a word, even as a media personnel asked him thrice as to why he was silent, according to videos across social media platforms.
In another video, before Nana was getting into a car, he said: "I have already answered... Jo jhooth hai woh jhooth hai (what is a lie is a lie)".

"As a part of the Bollywood industry that stands by values such as equality, freedom, and non-discrimination, I feel I need to stand up and address the hypocrisy. The case in point: Tanushree Dutta accusing Nana Patekar of harassment on the sets of a film. As soon as the story broke out, I heard the usual talk going around: Why didn't she say all of this sooner? But he is such a nice guy." he wrote in the letter.
“As a society, we somehow encourage the culture of silence. We are scared to rub powerful people the wrong way for fear of repercussions it might have on our career or social standing. Apathy of authorities does not help matters.”
"If we know that the person regularly indulges in inappropriate behaviour and we have seen it happening in front of us, instead of looking the other way, we should proactively report them to the authorities. Oust them from the industry. Take action against them."
Pulkit added: “As an industry, we need to come together and weed out toxic people who cannot respect their co-workers. They are not irreplaceable. There is enough talent out there. It is also important to understand that it is not easy for victims to accept that they were physically violated.”
