Tamil superstar Vijay’s forthcoming film Theri has been confirmed for Tamil New Year release. Director Atlee has revealed the news in a recent interaction and spills the beans about the highly anticipated project, which also co-stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.

The team recently filmed a song featuring Vijay and Amy Jackson in Ladakh in the backdrop of breathtaking locations. The principal shooting of the project was wrapped up yesterday and the film has entered into the post production phase now. Kalaipuli S Thanu, who produces the film, is planning to organize the audio launch in February end or early March. Theri marks young composer-actor GV Prakash’s 50th album in the industry and expectations are already mounting high.

“The title Theri was chosen since it implies spark, energy and force. We expected that it would provide top-of-mind recall for audiences. Although Theri is an action thriller, we have laced beautiful familial emotions in the screenplay. This will be a ‘complete’ cinema,” says Atlee.

“Vijay Anna and I wanted Theri to be a memorable film that should be remembered for years. There is a strong underlying message in the film which is told very simplistically. It will be high on emotions,” adds Atlee, a former associate of director Shankar who worked in his popular blockbusters including Rajinikanth’s Endhiran and Vijay’s Nanban.

Acclaimed filmmaker Mahendran is making his debut as an actor in Theri by playing the role of villain. “His character will be talked about by audiences. We have scripted it with subtlety. He will definitely earn accolades for his role,” promises Atlee.
Kalaipuli S Thanu’s other biggest production Kabali, starring Rajinikanth in the titular role, is also nearing its final stages of completion. It is slated to hit screens for summer after Theri.
