Remember the rape allegations that ended Shiney Ahuja’s Bollywood career? Well, Balaji Telefilms, the makers of Great Grand Masti decided to have some fun with it, and as was expected, it has angered the actor enough for him to take legal action against producer Ekta Kapoor.
In the 15 July adult comedy release, the character of the housemaid is named Shiney. The actor and his lawyers feel that this ‘rude, cheap joke’ is bound to prejudice the minds of viewers against the actor and also impact pending judicial proceedings.
In the legal notice, Shiney’s advocate stated that the conduct of the producers of the movie at this juncture constitutes Criminal Contempt as defined under Section 2(c) of the Contempt of Court Act 1971.
The legal notice calls for immediate removal of the name ‘Shiney’ from the movie before its release. It further warns of legal action, civil as well as criminal, if the demand is not met.
Shiney Ahuja had been convicted of the rape charges against him and sentenced to seven years in prison. He has been out on bail since 2011, and has filed an appeal against the verdict in the Bombay High Court.
