It’s unusual for the first shot of a teaser to stay on one particular actor in a multi-starrer, but the first teaser of Karan Johar’s much awaited Ae Dil Hai Mushkil does the unusual.

As Arijit’s voice takes over on Pritam’s music, Karan’s camera stays on Ranbir while the first lines of the title track flow out. The mixture of intensity and vulnerability in the actor’s eyes keep you hooked, and that’s pretty much true for the rest of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s teaser.

Yes, it’s a Karan Johar film and it also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan. They all look pretty awesome even when they cry, the locations are picturesque, the wardrobe is aspirational - it’s all there in good measure. But the intensity with which the teaser unfolds is a very welcome one and pretty much uncharacteristic by Karan’s standards.

And the one who steals the show is the actor who’s been undeservedly going through a rough patch at the box-office. Ranbir’s searing passion lunges out of the screen and just grabs you. He totally stands out in every bit for those few seconds you see him, be it opposite Aishwarya, Anushka or Fawad.

And thankfully it’s that rare teaser which doesn’t spell out all the plot points of the film, rendering the eventual movie watching experience futile.

So has the teaser done it’s job and piqued my interest in the film enough for me to watch it? Yes. And let’s hope Dharma’s further marketing plans keep it that way.

And here’s the second look of the film:
