The official teaser of superstar Rajinikanth’s highly-anticipated gangster drama Kabali was released yesterday, triggering an unprecedented fan frenzy on social media.
Director Pa. Ranjith delivered an ultimate feast to Rajinikanth fans by portraying ‘Thalaivar’ in various makeovers, including the smashing salt-and-pepper look and a much-adored retro look, with his trademark stroll. Rajinikanth’s hilarious monologue and Radhika Apte’s blink-and-miss appearance are other highlights of the teaser, which has been the buzz of tinsel town ever since it came out.
This record was earlier held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale, whose trailer netted 3.6 million views in the first 24 hours. Meanwhile, Kabali has also comfortably surpassed the number of views notched up by the teaser of Salman Khan’s much-awaited sports-drama Sultan, which had 3.1 million views in its first 24 hours.
Within hours of release, the teaser of Kabali started trending worldwide and various hashtags related to the film trended high on both Twitter and Facebook, in cities across the length and breadth of India. The teaser also got featured in YouTube’s Top Trending Videos in several countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, South Africa and New Zealand.
The audio launch of Kabali is expected to take place in the first week of June, 2016 and Kalaipuli S Thanu is reportedly working round the clock to have the film on big screens by the EID weekend on July 7th, worldwide. If all goes well, Kabali will take Salman Khan’s Sultan head-on at the worldwide box-office. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has resumed shooting for Shankar’s magnum-opus 2.o in Chennai today. The team recently completed a month-long schedule in New Delhi, where important combination scenes between Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth were filmed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
