Director of the Steve Jobs biopic Danny Boyle, had just finished reading the Dave Eggers novel titled The Circle, set in the near-future in which one vast Twitter-Facebook-Apple encompassing Internet company controls almost all perceivable platforms of digital communication. That’s when Scott Rudin handed him the script for Steve Jobs. According to Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker spoke about this at a promotional event for the film in London-

Referring to three of the world’s biggest tech giants, Boyle also said-
These companies are so powerful now that governments are running scared. It took years before I could evaluate that incident and realise that there was something incredibly wrong and illegal about it. And I think that’s what’s happening in Hollywood with regard to female crew members, above-the-line and below-the-line talent, and pay disparity. We’re individually and collectively coming to a realisation and acceptance that this is an entrenched part of reality, and I think that talking about it is essential to the process of becoming aware, accepting that this is reality and then ultimately taking action.
