Priyanka Chopra is on an all time career high, and finding room to fit more feathers in her hat is becoming quite the challenge for the 33 year old actress. After bagging the People’s Choice Award for her performance in the American thriller TV series Quantico, the Padma Shri for her achievements in cinema and the Filmfare ‘Best Supporting Actress’ title for her performance in Bajirao Mastani, she’s now being honoured by the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation with the ‘Best Actress’ award for her portrayal of Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama.
Priyanka tweeted saying that she is deeply grateful for the honour. Though popular awards have recognised her portrayal of Kashibai in ‘supporting actress’ categories, the Dadasaheb Phalke honour stands out, and we couldn’t agree more.
While there’s no doubt that Deepika Padukone is well deserving of the numerous ‘Best Actress’ awards for her performance as Bajirao Mastani’s lead actress, what stands out as a bold move is Priyanka Chopra’s choice to play the Chandramukhi of sorts in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most recent epic saga. She brings out the purity of Kashibai’s love, jealousy and heartache so effortlessly, making her character unconventionally endearing, with solid substance.
Priyanka Chopra previously won the Dadasaheb Phalke honour for her performance in Saat Khoon Maaf (2011). The award ceremony marking the 147th Dadasaheb Phalke Jayanti will take place in Mumbai on April 24th.
