The Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Prasoon Joshi, is unhappy about some news channels being shown Padmavati to get their stamp of approval even before the period film has been screened before the CBFC for a certificate. According to ANI, the CBFC chief has stated that this act, “...compromises the role of systems & balances that are part of a functioning industry”.

“Disappointing that #Padmavati is being screened for media & getting reviewed on national channels without CBFC having seen or certified the Film. This compromises role of systems & balances that are part of a functioning industry.”
Prasoon Joshi, CBFC Chairman

The CBFC team also believes that this practice of screening a film before it gets its certification will set a bad precedent in the industry.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati produced by Viacom 18, was screened for select media houses on Friday, who then proceeded to give the film their “approval” by stating that the film was a “cinematic tribute to Rani Padmavati’s valour and statecraft” and so should not be opposed.
