Popular Telugu film actor and Jana Sena party chief Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday night took to Twitter and forwarded an appeal to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, over the ongoing investigation into a massive drug racket busted in Hyderabad.
Standing in solidarity with Tollywood personalities, he shared a letter written by the Telugu Film Industry, a collective platform that consists of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, Telugu Film Producers Council, Movie Artists Association, and Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation.
Stating that it wanted the investigation to be successful, the two-page release also expressed its dismay over the ongoing developments in the industry.
The press release stated that drug users could never be heroes for them, and the entire industry had to bow their heads down in shame, because of the actions of a few people.
It also said that the industry would not tolerate such users, and requested the Chief Minister to handle the issue in a respectful manner, because of the influence that Tollywood has, on society.
This comes in the backdrop of a sensational racket busted by authorities, who found that about 1,000 students of leading private schools and colleges in the city were using high-end drugs such as LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine).
The racket also exposed the dark underbelly of Tollywood, as the dealers were also supplying drugs to several personalities from the Telugu industry.
Earlier this week, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) finished its questioning of 12 famous Tollywood personalities including top actors like Ravi Teja, Charmme Kaur and leading director Puri Jagannadh.
Their names cropped up when the SIT found their contact details in the call data of Calvin Mascarenhas, the kingpin of the recently busted drug racket.
A total of 29 people have been arrested in the drug racket so far.
