The nominations for the 68th prime time Emmy awards have been announced and while the world of international TV looks smashing, our top contenders put in perspective what we’ve loved watching the most this past year, across genres.

With The Game of Thrones getting 23 nominations at the 68th Emmy awards, it happens to be the frontrunner yet again with its sixth season. The edgy Mr Robot will give the period drama some much needed new-age competition. The People Vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story received the second most nominations (22), followed by Fargo (18).

This year’s nods cover shows that aired between 1 June, 2015 through 31 May, 2016.

In the best actor ‘drama’ category, the fight seems to be between the ruthless Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) and whizkid Rami Malek (Mr Robot). Bob Odenkirk’s quirky yet sensitive act in Better Call Saul is not one to ignore either.

The leading ladies in the drama category that happen to be in the main face off are Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder). The two characters are uncannily similar despite their own distinct worlds, and we love them strong.

While it might be too early to predict winners, we sure know which shows and actors we’ll be rooting for. The 68th Emmy Award will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel in Los Angeles on 18 September.
