One Plus organised a music festival in India for the first time and raised the bar for live concerts. Packed with a solid line up, ‘One Plus Music Festival 2019’ took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on 16 November.
Among the performers were Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Amit Trivedi, Ritviz, The Local Train and AsWeKeepSearching. While Amit Trivedi took to the tone of giving a message through each of his songs, Ritviz had the crowd grooving with ‘Udd Gaye’.
Just when the crowd was done leaning on one leg, longingly looking at the screens, sweating and anticipating for Dua Lipa’s arrival; there she was at the centre stage. This is the first time Dua Lipa has performed in India. Talking about the performance, Dua said:
The fans got all of their favourite Dua Lipa tracks as she performed ‘One Kiss’, ‘Hotter Than Hell’, ‘No Lie’, ‘Be The One’, ‘Blow Your Mind’ and ‘IDGAF’. Not just that, Dua also set the ball rolling for Katy’s performance.
And if you thought Dua Lipa setting the stage on fire with her voice and moves was the highlight of the concert, then you’d be surprised to know that Katy Perry unexpectedly rose the bar to the next level. While performing, Katy Perry made sure to interact with the audience in between her songs. And at one point, she literally jumped like a little kid across the stage. More than anyone else, it looked like Katy Perry was having a good time at the gig!
At one point, Katy Perry left the stage and came back to tell the audience how hot she was feeling. “Do you want to know the real truth?” she said. “I was trying to change my costume and it wouldn’t come off because I am sweating in every crack,” said Katy Perry. “And I’m told this is your winter!” an amused Katy told the crowd.
But whether she was feeling hot or struggling to get out of her costume, Katy Perry did not look like she was uncomfortable for even a moment.
Finally, to conclude the gig, Katy Perry performed one of her most popular tracks ‘Firework’. As she ended the concert, each face in the stadium was glowing with nostalgia and happiness as they moved to the rhythm of her most popular track since she began her career in 2001. What better way to end the evening, right?
Dua Lipa and Katy Perry really showed India what live performances are all about - connecting, singing and enjoying it along and more than your audiences. It’s safe to say that the 25,000 people who attended the concert will have a good story to tell for a very long time.
