The 61st annual Grammy Awards were presented Sunday 10 February at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Grammy nominees and performers made their way to the red carpet in downtown Los Angeles. Unlike last year, women are leading in nominations for big categories like album of the year and best new artist.
Lady Gaga picked up 3 awards including Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Duo Performance. “This Is America” by Childish Gambino won Song of the Year as well as Record of the Year.
A week ago, PJ Morton was playing the Super Bowl halftime show with Maroon 5. Now, he's at the Grammys and nominated for four awards.
Maroon 5 caught plenty of flack online about its Super Bowl show.
Morton says the band knew going in that "we had a lot stacked up against us in general. We knew it would be hard to please everybody." Still, he says Maroon 5 is proud of the show it put on.
The keyboardist has three nods in the R&B categories and one for pop duo/group performance for "Girls Like You."

Jack Antonoff & Annie Clark, songwriters (St. Vincent) won the Grammy for the track Masseduction.
Former first lady Michelle Obama made an unexpected appearance during the 61st annual Grammy Awards, where she helped open the show alongside Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett Smith.
"From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the 'Who Run the World' songs that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story," Obama said after a long ovation. "Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in."
Kacey Musgraves wins the Grammy for her album Golden Hour.
Alicia Keys sounded great as she straddled a piano stool rotating between two grand pianos and performed at the 61st Grammys while also hosting the show.
The track God’s Plan won the award for best rap song sung by Drake and Daveon Jackson, Brock Korsan, Ron LaTour, Matthew Samuels & Noah Shebib are songwriters.
"I definitely did not think I was winning anything," Drake said before giving a speech.
