The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards were held in New Jersey’s Prudential Center. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are tied this year for Most-Nominated Artist. They received 10 nods each. Billie Eilish followed with 9 nods and Lil Nas X got 8. Missy Elliott bagged the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and she performed a medley that included her new song Throw It Back. Taylor Swift kicked off the main show with You Need to Calm Down and the first live performance of Lover.

Lizzo performed Truth Hurts and Good As Hell. Miley Cyrus crooned her new single, Slide Away, which was backed by a string section.
