Pop singer Demi Lovato has spoken out for the first time since her reported overdose. She took to Instagram to write an open letter to all her fans and well-wishers informing them that she is alright and on the road to recovery.

I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond.

Demi also said that she needs time to heal and focus on her sobriety, but that this will not be easy.

What I’ve learnt is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades over time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.

Get well soon, Demi.
