There are very few things as irritating as the term "half girlfriend". Probably Arjun Kapoor's ridiculous attempt at speaking Bihari can come a close second.
But really what does a half freakin’ girlfriend do? From the movie, I now know what she shouldn't do! A half freakin’ girlfriend shouldn't step out unattended because she needs therapy and not a half freakin’ boyfriend!
Shraddha Kapoor might be all rosy lips and dimple chin but as Riya, Arjun Kapoor aka Madhav Jha's half girlfriend, she is annoying. In that sense, this jodi is made for each other in the Chetan Universe. He who speaks Bihari like he is choking on littis and she who sings only one song like a stuck record and dreams of being a singer!
The biggest assault of course has been committed on the premier educational institution of the country – St Stephen’s.
From that sham of an interview where college professors make fun of Madhav's English to Riya's stiletto with shorts runway look at the college canteen – after Biharis, it should be the St Stephen’s alumni boycotting Half Girlfriend.
Vikrant Massey (Madhav's friend) and Seema Biswas (Madhav's mom) are the two people who deserve all our respect and sympathy.
Another thing that makes this Mohit Suri film memorable is the huge Bill Gates moment! Yes, Mr Gates’ face is plastered onto another person’s body by someone who seems to be a bored intern trying to keep busy during summer vacations. It's scary because it can't be unseen!
Riya prefers to coin an absurd term "half girlfriend" to stay away from Madhav who can't flush out rejection from his system, making the pair so utterly abominable that frankly we couldn't give a damn about who ends up with whom.
So much for social awareness. The film by the way is a complete loo break from first scene to last. No prizes for guessing, Half Girlfriend gets half a quint. Judge this film based on the trailer and stay away!
